TRAINING CALENDAR
Your successful competition season starts in summer. Cross Country is a sport that your opponents prepare for year round. In order to stay competitive, you must train too. This section will lay out what you should be doing starting with your off season running in June, July and August through our competitive season in September, October and hopefully November. What is laid out below is the recommended MINIMUM. You can do less but your results will show it. Of course you can do more, and your results will show that too.
SUMMER RUNNING
June & July
YOUR SUMMER RUNNING IS IN TWO PARTS

PART ONE the four weeks from June 2, 2025 to June 29, 2025.
During these four weeks your off season minimum running is 3 times per week for approximately 35 to 40 minutes each time. This should result in a total weekly mileage of 10 to 15 miles each week. THIS IS A MINIMUM - It requires less than 4 hours a week from your busy summer schedule.
If you intend to be competitive at the VARSITY LEVEL you should run a minimum of 4 times per week for 40+ minutes and total 20+ miles.
Keep all your runs relaxed and easy. Running more times each week and for a longer duration is more important than running "hard".
Team led group run meet ups will be announced on BAND

PART TWO the four weeks from June 30, 2025 to July 26, 2025.
During these four weeks your off season minimum running is 4 times per week for approximately 40 to 45 minutes each time. This should result in a total weekly mileage of 15 to 24 miles each week. THIS IS A MINIMUM - It requires less than 5 hours a week from your busy summer schedule.
If you intend to be competitive at the VARSITY LEVEL you should run a minimum of 5 times per week for 45+ minutes and total 25+ miles.
Keep your runs mostly relaxed. You can mix in a 5K or 10K road race, some up tempo intervals, fartlek or hills. However, running for more times each week and for longer duration is most important.
Team led group run meet ups will be announced on BAND
MORATORIUM WEEK
MORATORIUM WEEK is from July 27, 2025 to August 2, 2025.
During this week coaches are not permitted to have workout related contact with their athletes. Our suggestion is that you use this as a "rest' week. Following this week, the workout demands will intensify. If you have been running steadily and meeting at least the minimum goals, then this is a good time to give your body a break.
PRE-SEASON CONDITIONING
PRE-SEASON CONDITIONING is from August 4, 2025 to August 17, 2025. During these two weeks your off season minimum running is 5 times per week for approximately 45 to 60 minutes. This should result in a total weekly mileage of 20 to 30 miles each week. THIS IS A MINIMUM - It requires less than 8 hours a week from your busy summer schedule. Voluntary pre-season conditioning workouts will be held at Reynolds High School on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting at 9am during these two weeks. Your participation is not mandatory, however, if you plan on attending our TRAINING CAMP, you will need to attend sufficient preseason training to demonstrate that you are fit enough to withstand the extensive running that will take place at the CAMP.
YOU MUST BE CLEARED IN FINAL FORMS TO ATTEND
